Rebels bikie boss, associates arrested after assault

A man believed to be a Rebels bikie boss and two of his associates have been arrested following a Victoria Police probe into an assault that left another man injured.

A 49-year-old North Bendigo man, believed to be the president of the Rebels, was taken into custody on Thursday and will be questioned over the violent attack.

A 28-year-old man believed to be a sergeant-at-arms of the club and a 25-year-old patched member, both from Epsom, are also being interviewed.

The arrests came during early-morning police raids at three homes in Bendigo.

It follows an alleged assault just before 10pm on May 15 outside a North Bendigo home.

Police say a man was working on his vehicle when a motorbike sped past, prompting him to wave for it to slow down.

A short time later, the 49-year-old and نقد و بررسی موتورسیکلت 25-year-old allegedly returned in a white Commodore ute wearing Rebels colours and assaulted the victim.

A third man, believed to be the 28-year-old, also arrived and joined in the assault.

The victim was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

“This is an unprovoked and callous assault on a completely innocent member of the public simply going about his own business,” Detective Acting Inspector Ash Ryan from the Echo Taskforce said.

“It is utterly unacceptable behaviour, and it will not be tolerated.”

Victoria Police works closely with the Australian Federal Police’s National Anti-Gangs Taskforce to tackle gang crime.

The Echo Taskforce was formed in 2011 to disrupt and investigate crimes linked to various gangs, including outlaw motorcycle gangs, Middle Eastern organised crime groups and street gangs.
