Three Greatest Moments In Upvc Replacement Door Handles History
As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and require replacement. When replacing them, it is crucial that the new handles are in line with the critical dimensions of the previous handle.
The top screw’s position as well as the lever and keyhole sizes are the three measurements that you need to determine. Check the size guide for help with this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever or lever door handle is a contemporary window handle repair that can be used on doors that are new or replacement. This type door handle is offered in a variety of designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are ideal for doors with multi-point locks that require a heavy duty design. The handles are inline and operate from the same spindle and screw fixings so they are easily installed on doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.
The handle can be adjusted and angled to fit the needs of all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the quality of finish and performance over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to fit a broad range of locks. This is useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further away from the door. A shortened lever can also be used on doors with a latch which can be operated with the thumb on the inside.
Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle differs from the lever handles used on the majority of doors. These handles are operated by one spindle, or two spindles, UPVC Replacement Door Handles inline or offset. They are typically employed on UPVC doors with double glazed door handles glazing. They are available in a variety of finishes & variations.
The window handles have been tested to the minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in several finishes like White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.
All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles are supplied with screws and a spindle, allowing them to be put on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a wider size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of handles that slide from their horizontal position when they are not in use.
It is crucial to match up the PZ dimensions for both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when choosing a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also called ‘handle centres’ or cylinder centres’. It is important to match the right handles.
Once you have decided on the proper PZ size, you will need to make sure that the push and lever pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically square or round with an internal lever and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed versions that allow them to be installed on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock body, allowing them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is essential. It’s dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for instance are required to be fitted with higher security cylinders, whereas doors inside can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders have extra features that can improve security further, such as anti-drill or anti-bump features.
A euro cylinder needs to be properly measured to ensure it’s the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn should there be one. If you are unable to measure using the lock in its position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like lock snapping, so it is important that it is not too long.
The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This can help deflect the attack, and protect your door.
Certain cylinders are made to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a lot faster and easier to achieve than gaining access through multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a burglary, which can impede an insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette is located within the base plate of the door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to help return your multipoint lock handles to their original position after usage. The handles had no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disconnected. This component is the best way to address this issue. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in the open or closed position since they aren’t easy to close manually.
These spring cassettes are specifically designed to be used with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a custom hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes within the door handle backplate of many kinds of uPVC doors. They are available as one unit. They have a square-cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution to the issue of door handles that are sagging. They are easy to fit and will extend the life span of your uPVC doors.
