Succession stars support the SAG-AFTRA strike

The Screen Actors Guild (Sag-Aftra) has called its 160,000 members to strike over issues such as residuals compensation and the use of in film and television.
In the show, Connor plays a Presidential hopeful and Willa his long suffering actress wife.
And so it seems only fitting that the campaigners on screen would be the stand-out stars of the show to join the strike.
One fan shared a picture of them on Twitter echoing that exact sentiment.

They wrote: ‘Them being the first (only?) principal Succession cast members to hit the picket line is so funny and perfect and I cannot overstate true to the world of the show.’
While a host of other stars insisted they were not the only castmembers in support of the strike, lots of fans were in agreement that it was a great moment.
Others insisted that J.Smith Cameron, 65, who plays Gerri Kellman, was also seen walking the picket line on July 18.
And moreover, Brian Cox, 77, who played Logan Roy on the show, has also voiced his own support for the strike.
He told Sky News on Friday: ‘You really can’t make a living any more. So it may not be solved … until towards the end of the year.’
He expressed support for the Writers Guild of America, whose 20,000 members have been on strike since May.
Brian said: ‘Without writers, we have nothing …That’s why we have shows like White Lotus, like Succession…’
Writers and actors have been negotiating with the (AMPTP) over payments when shows or films are repeated, called residuals.

Streaming services such as Netflix have been able to grow huge audiences through libraries of films and shows and are able to pay less in residuals than broadcast television.
Brian said: ‘In a way, the streaming services have shot themselves in the foot because they’ve said, “oh, we’re going very well on this front. And when we called them to task and said ‘what about our residuals, what about our money?”, everything kind of closes down and … you know, it’s not going to happen.’
He also addressed actors’ concerns about the use of AI in film and TV, including AI replacing writers to generate scripts or generating an actor’s likeness without their consent.
